The Bira Crisis, Will Bira Survive?

Bira 91 showed strong growth from 2015 to 2022–23 and successfully built a national brand in India’s highly regulated beer market. However, weak unit economics hurt profitability, with production costs higher than selling prices. Challenges intensified during IPO preparation when the company converted from private to public, triggering state wise licensing delays of 6 to 7 months. This led to inventory losses of ₹80 to ₹100 crore and rising operational issues. Currently, Bira’s unlisted market valuation is estimated at around ₹1,100 crore.
