Sterlite Power has raised ₹725 crore to bolster its Global Products and Services (GPS) division. The investment, led by GEF Capital Partners and ENAM Holdings, comes shortly after the company spun off its GPS business in October this year. This marks the first major funding round for the newly established entity.
1. Expanding Operations and Supporting Working Capital
The ₹725 crore funding will be instrumental in Sterlite Power’s planned ₹400 crore expansion of its GPS operations. According to Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director of Sterlite Power Transmission Limited, the remaining funds will be utilized to strengthen the company’s working capital, enabling it to meet growing market demands.
2. Robust Order Book and Market Presence
Sterlite Power's GPS business has a current order book worth ₹6,612 crore, reflecting its strong market foothold. During the first half of FY25 alone, the company secured new orders totaling ₹2,715 crore, demonstrating its ability to attract significant contracts.
3. Addressing Rising Demand in the Power Equipment Sector
The global push towards decarbonization, accelerated electrification, and the rise of renewable energy have created a surge in demand for power equipment. Sterlite Power, leveraging over four decades of expertise, is well-positioned to cater to this growing market. Agarwal highlighted that their cables and conductors segment continues to lead in over 40 countries, with the market projected to grow in low double digits annually. Sterlite Power aims to outpace this growth, targeting a 15–20% increase in the next two to five years.
4. Comprehensive Product Portfolio
Sterlite Power’s GPS business offers a wide array of solutions tailored to the evolving needs of the power sector. Its product line includes high-performance conductors, optical ground wires, and high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cables. These products are critical in integrating renewable energy into the grid, enhancing grid resilience, and minimizing transmission losses.
5. Pioneering Grid Solutions for a Sustainable Future
With its latest funding and expansion plans, Sterlite Power is poised to lead advancements in the power equipment industry. By addressing global energy challenges and meeting the demands of a transitioning energy ecosystem, the company reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the power transmission sector.
