Dalmia Refractories Limited (DRL) is a part of one of India’s oldest business conglomerates, Dalmia Bharat Group. Set up in 1973, DRL (previously Shri Nataraj Ceramics and Chemical Industries Ltd.) is a pioneer in High Alumina refractory bricks for the Indian cement industry.
Set up in 1973, Dalmia Refractories Limited (previously Shri Nataraj Ceramics and Chemical Industries Ltd.) is today a preferred partner to major Indian cement manufacturers and iron & steel maker.
DRL enjoys over 50% market share in High Alumina refractory bricks and provides a complete line of services including refractory design and layout for greenfield projects, refractory application, and maintenance.
The company is headquartered in New Delhi and operates two manufacturing plants located at Dalmiapuram (Tamil Nadu) and Khambalia (Gujarat).
DRL produces high alumina refractory bricks and castables which are supplied to cement, steel, coke oven, and glass industries. Presently, the company has 2 manufacturing units located at Dalmiapuram (Tamil Nadu) and Khambalia (Gujarat). The current installed capacity as of March 31, 2020, stands at 1,08,600 metric tons per annum (MTPA) for Refractory and 24,000 MTPA for Calcined Bauxite. The company used to previously undertake job work for Dalmia bharat Ltd (DBL) which has been discontinued w.e.f. April 1, 2014, and the refractories produced are directly marketed to the user industries by DRL. However, DRL leverages the strong presence of Dalmia Bharat Group in the cement sector previously through DBL and presently through Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited (DCBL). Mr. Sameer Nagpal, CEO of the refractories division of Dalmia Bharat Group is the managing director of DRL, with over 27 years of industry experience.
FY18-19 Performance Analysis:
a) The company has recently commissioned a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Katni as part of its JV with Seven Refractories of Europe. The JV called Dalmia Seven offers advanced monolithic refractory solutions to customers in India. Also, through the recent acquisition of GSB Group of Germany, Dalmia Refractories is now the leading supplier of lances and snorkels to steelmakers in Europe.
b) Revenues stood at Rs. 24,142 Lakhs, increasing by 34%, compared to Rs. 18,076 Lakhs last year.
c) The Company’s profitability improved considerably as it made a profit of Rs. 394.71 lakhs in FY 2018-19 as against a loss of Rs. 637.73 lakhs during the previous year, on a consolidated basis.
