Greenzo Energy India Ltd. (GEIL), a prominent manufacturer of alkaline electrolyzers, has entered into a significant partnership with France-based EODev (Energy Observer Developments). The collaboration aims to introduce hydrogen fuel cell power generators to the Indian market. As part of this strategic tie-up, GEIL will not only distribute EODev's zero-emission hydrogen generators but will also provide essential maintenance services. The companies plan to set up a local assembly line for EODev’s products in India, establishing GEIL as both an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and a strategic partner in the region.
Focus on Hydrogen Fuel Cells for South Asia
This partnership is poised to bring cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell technology to South Asia. The hydrogen generators use the chemical energy in hydrogen to produce both electricity and water, offering a zero-emissions alternative to traditional fossil fuel-powered sources like diesel generators. These fuel cell generators are expected to replace diesel generators that currently power critical infrastructure such as telecom towers, data centers, microgrids, agricultural operations, and even transportation.
The Growing Hydrogen Market in India
The Indian hydrogen generator market is forecasted to grow rapidly, with an estimated value of around $20 million. Currently, diesel generators power essential facilities, with telecom towers being the largest segment, comprising approximately 80 lakh (8 million) generators. India’s government is pushing for a transition to cleaner alternatives, encouraging businesses to replace these diesel generators with hydrogen-powered ones to reduce emissions. According to Sandeep Agarwal, the founder and managing director of GEIL, the partnership will significantly contribute to this shift.
Massive Investment for a Cleaner Future
As part of the collaboration, the two companies are investing heavily in setting up manufacturing capabilities in India. Initial investments will amount to ₹200 crore, with plans to expand this figure to ₹1,000 crore within the next two years. This investment will not only help facilitate the introduction of hydrogen fuel cell generators in India but also create local assembly facilities, enabling the companies to meet the growing demand for zero-emission power solutions.
EODev's Global Vision and Toyota’s Support
Founded in 2019, EODev’s mission is to accelerate the global energy transition through hydrogen-powered solutions. The company has attracted significant investments from high-profile players, including Toyota and Accor, and has raised approximately €100 million in recent years. Toyota, a key investor in EODev, has played a crucial role in enabling the company’s expansion into clean energy solutions, particularly through its state-of-the-art hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Shaping the Future of Clean Energy in India
With the partnership between Greenzo Energy and EODev, India is set to benefit from advanced, environmentally friendly power generation technology. By replacing diesel generators with hydrogen fuel cell alternatives, the collaboration aims to significantly reduce India’s carbon footprint, offering a cleaner, more sustainable future for industries relying on continuous, uninterrupted power. The upcoming investments and manufacturing facilities are expected to further accelerate the transition to a greener energy ecosystem, supporting India’s broader environmental and energy goals.
